I often hear people say, “The government can’t do anything right” and use it as a justification for, well, usually their personal agenda.

I disagree. The government is made up of you and me. It can do things right, it just takes a decision to do things right and the funding to make it happen. There is no Santa Claus.

In the last few years many of my friends have decided to go into teaching, most of whom are in NJ. The certification process is crazy. The application fees had to be paid with money orders and bank checks, not credit cards or personal checks. There were some procedures that required two or three small checks, each to a different departments. The backlog was so big you couldn’t apply and be certified in the same school year.

In all, the department receives about 45,000 certification applications every year and was processing them all by hand.

Today NJ DOE announced:

A new teacher licensing application system that allows people to apply
for certification online and pay online by credit card is now
operational, Commissioner of Education William L. Librera announced
today.

Apply on line, pay by credit card, check status of application, get updates on test scores, etc.

They expect 75% of all new applications to use this system.

I haven’t played video games since Pacman. Now I find myself writing an article where I refer to playing video games as “blasting millions of video aliens”. Does that sound “too 1980’s”? What would a more updated and relevant version be?
