Living in New Jersey can suck. But what makes it even more of a PITA is traveling outside of New Jersey and having to put up with constant jokes about New Jersey and it’s corrupt politicians.
Acting Governor Codey pledged to put an end for “pay-to-play” contracts (i.e. giving contracts to the bidders that make large campaign contributions). Last month he wrote an executive order closing the loopholes that permitted such behavior. End of story, right?
This week Bush Jr withheld millions of dollars in highway funding for New Jersey until the executive order was reversed. His cronies in the federal courts claimed that stopping corruption was putting limits on free market capitalism and New Jersey couldn’t have its highway funds until they permit pay-for-play.
How does this affect you? Well, there are now 10,000 to 15,000 construction workers who’s jobs are “on hold” until the Federal Highway Funds are released. That’s thousands of construction workers, with mouths to feed and children to cloth.
Un-fucking-believable.
