100 years ago it was pretty radical for workers to demand a a minimum wage, the 40-hour work week and time off for weekends. Business said they could never survive with such limits put into law, and yet I think we've had a pretty good century.

If we were creating a new workers' bill of rights for modern times, what would it include? Here's my list so far:

  • Vacation time without leashes (no pagers, cell phones, or requirement to check email)
  • On-call compensation (a minimum for hours on-call with a bump up if called)
  • Amnesty for whistleblowers that report unethical business practices
  • Amnesty for employees that report security issues through proper channels
  • Reasonable staffing levels for reasonable situations
  • A minimum wage that, for full-time employees, would not qualify you for welfare.
What would you add to this list?
