Second NJ Governor in a row resigns in shame

Nearly 4 years ago Governor Whitman resigned in disgrace. I think her words were, “I’m going to be George W. Bush’s Head of EPA.” The announcement was so devastating that she stepped down from being Governor and moved out of state. Today Gov. McGreevey stepped down in an equal disgrace: he’s gay.

What the fuck? Can New Jersey keep a governor for a complete term?

I don't think the disgrace is for being gay, I think the disgrace is for having an inappropriate affair with a subordinate that could've turned the rest of his term into a zoo. But I'm not seeing NJ local media.

I just hope he came out to his wife before he came out to the country.

This has been "no great secret" to the gay community in NJ. He's purportedly been spotted at the Coliseum and at Paradise with "at least a couple of" boitoys on his arm.

I echo kimuchi's statement--I hope he came out to Mrs. McGreevey first. And let her come to terms with it.

I've heard from news reports that his wife and children were at the press conference where he announced his resignation. If it weren't already safe to guess that they already knew, that kind of clinches it.

It sounds as though the immediate reason for his resigning was that he actually gave a $100K/year government position to his lover, which is kind of an ethical problem no matter what their gender. Unfortunately, all that the national media are getting out of it is "I'm gay and I had an affair with a man," so that's what's going to be perceived as the "disgrace."

I suspect, given his speech, gay but able to have sex with a woman. I believe he is/was Catholic, and thus encouraged to develop a "normal" family. Some people would call this bisexual, but my take on it is that he's been gay all along.
