I no longer refer to Bush's "Approval Rating".
Now I refer to it as Bush's "Pity Factor".

Think about it. After 9/11 everyone kept saying that his 90% approval rating was inflated due to terror attacks; that the "numbers were soft" because of the war(s). Now I realize that what that means is the right term is Pity Factor.

[Updated: corrected some typos. Serves me right for now posting from Safari, which spell-checks textbox fields.]

That’s spot-on. It’s very eloquently expressed.

It would be even more eloquently expressed if you’d spelled “pity” correctly. :-)

Given the spelling of approval as "approvel", I have a feeling that it may have been intentional. *grin*

I absolutely LOVE your icon, btw! I want to steal the idea next October! :-)

Oh, uh, probably so.

Please steal the idea! I stole it from somebody else at the pumpkin-carving party I was at.

I'm not convinced it's a typo. "Pity" is an emotion, but "pitty" may be an adjective describing the (arm)pit, in lieu of using "pit-like." Tom may have been attempting to conflate Dubya into the stinkiness of an armpit in addition to the sympathetic pity.

Or not.

I wouldn't call it pity though

It's more a blind solidarity factor. "We" are under attack by "them" so "we" must show "them" a unified front, no matter how much of a putz the man in charge is. Gets my dander up almost as much as when Ghouliani was being labeled a "hero" for being quick to appear on the scene for photo ops.
