People are saying that the anti-gay marriage constitutional amendement ("FMA) will not pass because it doesn't have enough votes in the house or senate. TODAY we don't have enough votes to stop it, but most of the votes on our side are conditional... and once the radical right starts flooding their phone lines with callers, those votes will switch. They're changing the language of the bill over and over to gather more votes. Soon the people that gave a conditional "no" will switch. "Oh, I was only against it because it prevented states from having civil unions too, but they removed that.", etc. etc.
This is why it is so important that everyone contact their elected officials right now. If you are in NJ, simply click here. Outside NJ please go to HRC's web site

Support Marriage Freedom! Don't ban same-sex marriage!
I'm writing to you to let you know that I support Marriage Freedom. Any ban of same-sex marriage or civil unions is a disheartening reduction in freedoms in this country.
Imagine having to stand by and let your wife's family make the medical
decisions for her when she's ill, because the hospital doesn't recognize your relationship? Imagine not being able to visit her in intensive care, again, because the hospital doesn't recognize your relationship.
Imagine being evicted from your apartment, because your spouse died, and the landlord doesn't legally have to recognize your spousal rights.
Now you start to see the problems your gay and lesbian constituents face every day.
Help me to ensure that I can visit my partner in the hospital. Help me to ensure my relationship is recognized.
Stop the constitutional amendement to ban same-sex marriages.
Support every state's right to legalize same-sex marriage.
Sincerely,
Thank you,
Glenn Sieb
