I'm living like a college student... no income, I work 18 hours a day, I share an old house with no furniture, hardly a kitchen, and no TV. I completely love it.
I was sitting 3 feet from Dean when he announced that there will be no paychecks on Feb 1 because we are too low on money, and that he's adding a "campaign CEO" named Roy Neel to the team, and that nobody is being asked to leave. Then Joe walked in, wished everyone the best, and said goodbye.
There are TV screens all over the place all showing the same thing (picked by the people in our "media miner" group). The entire organization stops to watch the screens whenever Dean comes on, or they are talking about Dean (and when The West Wing or The Daily Show is on).
When talking in normal conversations, Dean actually says "The truth is..." just like in his campaign speeches.
This weekend I spent packing up the NH headquarters computers to make sure they got back to Vermont for re-deployment.
Working on a presidential campaign has got to be the most exciting thing in the world. One of my volunteers had a cool idea for a visibility action. I walked her over to Zephyr Teachout (our grassroots coordinator) and now it's the basis for our plan on Feb 7th. At 4pm ET, everyone is encouraged to stand at the street corner near their house with home-made sign that says, "I AM HOWARD DEAN'S SPECIAL INTEREST"
With the HUGE exception that I miss Chris hugely, I absolutely love this job.
