John McCain is telling lie after lie. Not off the cuff remarks that can be excused as accidents or flubs but the same lies consistently and many of them. Serial liars are never trustworthy people -- that is a truism. But it also demonstrates a deeper character flaw. A normal job applicant would be disregarded out of hand after such a record became clear.

And where the hell is the concerted Democrat counterattack? If they don't stop pretending that this whole "attacking" stuff is beneath them or unsporting or whatever it's going to be McCain/Palin in 2008, and on behalf of the rest of the world, OH PLEASE GOD NO.

Those who take the stance that in politics there is no real truth and falsehood are those who sustain the media's indifference to these lies. Arguably, given that there are no standards of truth enforced, McCain does not actually have the character flaw that you claim he does. As a hiring manager, if the sate of my field was such that the recruiters had convinced virtually everybody to tell whoppers on their resumes, I'd not be able to use that as a way fo distinguishing one candidate from another.

Personally, I think such standards should be enforced. I think reclaiming them is both essential for the country and for reality-based liberalism. But it's, er, come to my attention that not everyone whom I'd think would agree with that does.
