They are replaying all of the old Charlie Brown comic strip in chronological order on www.unitedmedia.com (and www.peanuts.com. I haven’t missed a day yet. So far they are all ones too old for me to have been born yet, but I remember this one from reading the books of the strip that I used to have.

Maybe this one influenced my attitude towards friends getting married?

That's so awesome. It reminds me of how when I got married how many nincompoops people said to me, "So what's your name?" When I would reply with Patti [Maiden Name] a disturbing number of them followed up with, "No, what's you're *real* name?"

o_O

I wanted to heart punch them. Hard.

(And I guess that's sort of the opposite of the Peanuts cartoon but the carton reminded me of it.)

But wait a minute. You introduced yourself to me (or your email address or something did) with your husband's last name as yours, And you weren't even with him anymore. I still have to consciously remember not to use that name, since it's the one I learned first.

Yeah, it's a messy story but for a variety of reasons it was became easier to take his name but I didn't do it until we were married 2 or 3 years. In retrospect, not the smartest move I ever made.

If you're a hard-core Peanuts fan, you need to read this recently published collection of strips that were either published once, or never published. Fascinating stuff, with insightful commentary.

Oh, look! A small taste of it is available online. There may be others. (It was given away free at comic book stores for the annual "Free Comic Book Day".)

You also need to read Schulz and Peanuts, the recently published biography. Explains a lot behind the strips.

Heh. We both kept our maiden names after marriage, but a few months later I made some crack at how I could put "Sheeri Cabral" on things to be a snail mail spam filter to easily be able to filter out "Mrs. Cabral" mail as crap. Tony wasn't too thrilled with this idea, and it came out that he'd really like (in an "I'd be honored" sort of way) if I took his name.

He also pointed out that his mother grew up in Brockton, and everyone still knows her as "Connie Reavis" even though she actually did change her name. Plus, my MIL is awesome, so I'm happy to be Mrs. Cabral.

And then I realized that "Sheeri" is more of a defining element to my name than "Kritzer" is, though it is still important for me to be "Sheeri K. Cabral" and not lose it entirely.

But does that mean in "real" life I'm still living in sin with Tony? ;)

(the fact that changing my name didn't mess with my domain name, www.sheeri.com was one of the defining reasons I really didn't care about changing my name).
