There is a company that has about 15 zillion plug-ins that all turn out to be funnels into their “someone has a crush” “someone sent you a kiss” “someone sent you a rose” or whatever system.

Once you sign up, you keep getting emails saying, “An anonymous person sent you a ____. Click here!”

Occasionally I get email saying that a non-anonymous person has sent me a ____. However, nothing I’ve clicked on has told me who the person is and I usually end up in a loop where they try to get me signed up to some dating site.

Has anyone EVER successfully found out who the non-anonymous person is, or is this just a scam?

(or is it that I use Firefox and their system only really works for IE?)

I've not seen anything like this on my account. I get invites to try out new applications from people I know, but I ignore most of them. Every new application you seem to install/enable wants to notify everyone on your friends list by default. I just don't care to use Facebook for that.

I don't do any of those type of apps. I only use the media apps, Scrabulous, and Imperial Galaxy, and the Wall. I don't see the emails for that stuff you mention, tho' I do see friends doing stuff like the pirate game or the vampire thing, and what not.

What are your privacy settings?

It reminds me of Classmates and their "Someone has signed your Guestbook! Sign up (i.e. give them money) NOW to see who it was!"

I have like 12 non-anonymous, random people who were in my class/school who didn't "sign my guestbook" anonymously.. but Classmates won't show me who they are unless I pay.

I wonder if it's a similar thing? I hate stuff like that. For all you know some of the messages could be "Ha! Psyche!"

I don't think I've gotten any email like that, but I do see ads like that in some of their apps.

Would you like to experiment? I'll do a non-anonymous click on you and see if you get the email.

I don't know! If it is some application that spams everyone on your friends list, I probably shouldn't go through the add-the-application thing I would need to do to respond/accept/whatever.

I HATE FACEBOOK. I think it has the worse interface. So annoying. I am on it but I never go one.

I don't think I got any of those type emails though.

Been there. Done that. Solved it.

Yes. I went around that loop several times, refusing to bite. I use Firefox, too, so I can't answer that question. But I solved the problem by clicking on the grayed "X" to the right in the "News Feed" area of each such temptation. Eventually, they stopped showing up.

I use facebook to keep up with my younger relatives and I find it sometimes annoying. After all, it started out as a school thing. But if I want to complain, I'll complain about MySpace -- too slow, too clunky, too many advertisements, too little content.

Cheers,
Alan

Ever notice how there's no reliable way to stop these stupid applications from polluting your newsfeed? I hate them. It's so 2006. I'm done.

I don't understand anything about FaceBook.

But I'm kind of a technophobe.

Who has 35+ Macs. Yeah, technophobe.

I hate facebook...
You always have to annoy your other friends to get the answer you wat or soemthing.

I find Facebook to be major lame, hard to work with and in general a rip-off of sorts.

Yes, actually! Go into the module you're interested in seeing non-anonymous matches for, don't invite or prod anyone on your way in (click Skip, basically) and once you're in, there are 3 or 4 tabs, one of which is matches. Click that one and you'll see who's clicked you. I have many admirers on other land masses, not so many in the Americas. I am so not bragging.
