"I fell in love this summer. Her name is TiVo. I love the sound when you first turn TiVo on. And I love the sound it makes when you delete a program. And I LOVE the drum sound it makes when you scroll down too far on the now playing list. I love my TiVo."

Sometimes

I hit the wrong key over and over just to hear the tympani. I make a little rhythm with it. It's fun.

I love that I can turn the sound effects off on my TiVO. I hate all of those noises.

No, the subject and the message is a quote from a co-worker.

I hate my TiVo

I hate the sounds it makes. I hate the fact that the menus don't auto-wrap so you have to press up a whole buncha times. I hate that it can start a recording early, but not late. I hate the fact that it can end a recording late, but not early. (One can manually tell it when to record things, that's handy. Oh, except for that whole only-in-five-minute-increments bit there. That's not handy.) I hate that it sometimes has difficulties changing the channel properly on the Motorola digital cable box.

Stupid TiVo.

Other than that, it's okay.

Are you serious? Duuuude, you need some prozac!

By the way... the menus don't autowrap, but you can press CHAN-UP rather than pressing UP many times.

Completely serious. It's a nasty little thing that is just useful enough to keep around.

And do you know how far away from the up-down control the chan-up-down control is? Talk about a stupidly arranged remote, the TiVo remote takes the cake. In my remote experience, at least. And I have a lot of remotes.

I love my TiVo!

I think the TiVo and the Palm Pilot are the most damned successful technological aids to my life, among recent-ish electronic gadgets. They really accomplish an impressively high fraction what they set out to do.

Not having watched TV for a couple of years, the whole DVR thang had happened without me paying it any attention. Then I went to work for TiVo early this year, and saw what the product was. I could almost see getting cable and watching a few hours of TV every month, with that gizmo!
