I just can't vote for anyone who supports the death penalty. There are only about four issues that are deal breakers for me, and that's one of them. Other than that, I could really get behind him.
I'm struggling with what to do with Hillary and Obama. I <3 Hillary, but my fear is that if she gets the Democrat nomination, we'll just be handing votes to the Republicans (as with Obama). Some people just are not ready to vote for a black man or a woman. Especially a woman named Clinton.
So I'm really conflicted, too. As the primary usually is for me, I'm probably going to winnow my vote-getter by process of elimination.
I won't vote for Hillary. I don't feel comfortable with her connection to previous scandal-filled presidencies. Plus, she does absolutely nothing for me. I was all ready to vote for Obama, but then he threatened to invade Pakistan. That makes me uncomfortable. Edwards doesn't really thrill me, although I thought I heard something about him that sounded good earlier in the week - can't remember what. Also, he doesn't seem that great on the GLBT front. On the other hand, Richardson seems pretty good about that, plus I haven't heard anything bad about him. I don't care if he is too far down the ladder to win the primaries.
A philosophy that my sister shared with at the time of the last primary... she thought that the primary was her one chance to exercise free will as when the general election rolled around, she'd be going with party lines no matter who the nominee was. So even though she didn't think her first choice had a snowball's chance in hell of winning the primary, she wanted to throw him her support.
It's a philosophy I employed at the last presidential primary and the most recent Philadelphia primary.... although I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing this time around.
That philosophy right there is why, of all of the candidates in the Democratic primary, I am most likely to vote for Kucinich. Not a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but it will be my one shot at voting for someone whose values are actually somewhat similar to mine.
