Remember when it was new and he loved lasagna and drank coffee? It was the first time I had a "favorite comic strip" (outside of Peanuts, of course).

Now the pizza industry owns him, so he eats pizza and never mentions lasagna. He doesn't drink coffee because that isn't "kid friendly". Jim Davis doesn't actually write or draw the strip any more. And not one but two Garfield moves suck.

[livejournal.com profile] actjack gave M. a copy of the Garfield movie for his birthday, which means that by now we have all watched it upwards of a dozen times. And, honestly, I would sooner watch Garfield again than, say, Yu-Gi-Oh, or another damn Pokemon video, or even The Lion King.

Great art it ain't, but watching it doesn't want to make me want to claw my own eyes out, and for children's entertainment that's a win. :-)

Just how would one pronounce "Peanus" anyway?

Damn, I didn't realize Garfield had given up on lasagne and coffee. That sucks.

+1

I was obsessed with Garfield when I was younger. Of course, as [livejournal.com profile] yesthattom points out, Jim Davis was still writing, so there was a whiff of humor to be had. *sigh* Lasagna and coffee versus Nermal and Mondays. Good times...

garfield and i are the same age! i always loved garfield as a kid -- and coffee (coincidence?!), actually; one of my aunts gave me a garfield coffee mug for my 8th birthday. i've still got some of the books (which i read to tatters). maybe i'll go home, order some italian delivery, and read "Garfield At Large" this evening. :)

Ah, yes, Garfield...

We still have a collection of 80s Garfield drinking glasses we purchased at McDonalds :) For awhile, I was collecting all the "collection" volumes. I refuse to see the Garfield movies, but I am sorely disappointed they weren't something more clever (the short-lived Saturday morning cartoon was the bomb).
