This morning I had an idea for a recipe book. It would have a nice cover and table of contents but then each recipe would be formatted like:

Name of item

One paragraph of description.

Step 1. Call (name of restaurant)
Step 2. Order (name of item)
Step 3. (if they deliver) Ask for delivery.
Step 3 (if they don't deliver) Go to (address) and pick it up.

You could call it "The NY Cookbook" or something. At the back you can list the address and other details of each restaurant mentioned.

Hah, great idea! I'd call it "The Bachelor(ette)'s Cookbook", however.

Oh, that is indeed a good one. Certainly beats all the pamphlets one traipses home and put little scribbles and stars next to the good ones along with all the other annotations. Perhaps a little chap book is in order, with small advertisements and placings in all the restaurants in the area! That's a market niche. Go exploit it. They might give you free food so you can rate what their stuff tastes like and all that.

the poor man's zagat.
when i lived in a city i had a file box filled with the takeout menus. organized by cuisine, price, taste, it was quite a sight. (when i get organized, there's no stopping me) a month before i moved out a friend moved to the next street over and i gifted the box to her.

the interesting challenge is that take out/delivery is geographically based. which means that you end up with a bunch of these books, similar to entertainment or zagats but with even higher specificity.
