If this was a West Wing episode, this would be the one where Bush, Jr. is shocked that people have been keeping him in a bubble intentionally. He thought public appearances were scripted just to keep things flowing, not a sign that people didn't think he could handle tough questions. He demands a town hall meeting with real citizens that aren't scripted to prove that he doesn't need to be kept in the bubble. After weeks of whining, the staff decides to give it to him just like he asked. The result is a fiasco. A student beats him verbally about a decision he made and Bush, Jr. is unable to defend his decision and ends up outright lieing. The event seriously bruises Bush, Jr.'s ego. In the final scene we see him alone in The Oval and as the camera zooms in on him we see he is crying. Defeated, broken. His staff is chatting in another room, we can't hear them but from their body language it is obvious that they are fighting. Toby, who was against this from the state, is scolding everyone with a "I told you so" look.

In future episodes things start going badly for the president because his self-esteem problem makes him indecisive and argumentative.

Another reason I can't watch West Wing (besides the Sports Night fanaticism) is that I know I'd become depressed at the contrast between President Bartlet's cabinet and The Junta.

Now, see, I watch The West Wing specifically because it offers a pleasing contrast to the depressing reality of how we're actually governed ...
