Google invents the delete button
Jan. 21st, 2006 03:45 pmJust like Microsoft invented the web, and Cisco invented TCP/IP. :-)

”Our shipment of delete buttons finally came in! We’re busy affixing them to the Gmail interface as we speak.”
(Just to clarify: the delete function was always there in a menu. Now it’s just IN YOUR FACE.)

Date: 2006-01-22 12:16 pm (UTC)I noticed the delete button when they took the "Trash" item out of the menu. OK, neat. Then I went looking for my "Deleted Items" folder. I couldn't find it. Turns out they changed the name of the function (from "Trash" to "Delete") but not the name of the folder.
Part of me feels dumb, but part of me feels like this is bad UI or something.

Date: 2006-01-22 11:26 pm (UTC)i would have preferred if they kept both trash in the drop down and delete as a button. i am still looking for the trash drop down.
hope you are well...

two seconds ago, i was finished reading a lil gmail message. went to the 'more actions' drop down intending to delete.
didn't find the option. paused
looked a bit to the left and saw a perfectly reasonable delete button. clicked
if you haven't posted this, i swear i'd've not realized the change. it was that smooth for me (tho, i seem to be in the minority)
i love the google boys
