Via a mailing list that I’m on:
The news today about the “troop withdrawal” plan was real doublespeak.

The presence of troops would be reduced by two units. However, neither of the units is currently in Iraq. One is in Kuwait and will just stay there unless the violence increases. The other is in Kansas and will just stay there, except for some forces who will go to Iraq to train Iraqis. The two units, who were projected to go, are directed not to go, but some of them will go, so the decrease of troops is really an *increase.* So this is their new communication technique: Say you are doing one thing. Espouse the details describing exactly the opposite. But the schools do not teach sentence parsing any more, so most people don’t know how to write a sentence containing multiple ideas, and they won’t understand it anyway.

And the great thing about the culture of disinformation that we're living in is that I heard a completely DIFFERENT version of why his troop withdrawal is disingenuous. I heard that he is actually bringing some troops home from Iraq - and immediately replacing them with different ones.

It's enough to make my head go explody.

Not to mention the fact that there is no memory.

The last couple troop level increases were suppose to be temporary and 'just for the elections'. It's been that way for like three elections.

Oh, and the' coallition of the willing', 'grand coallition' or whaterver... hasn't been talked about much reciently. Mostly becaus they arn't so willing, anymore.

They weren't all so willing to begin with.

Should have known that it was too good to be true. Great PR for them, though, to make it look like they're being all magnanimous to the troops in time for Christmas. Lying, mendacious, evil fuckers.

I just stumbled upon this post. I'm glad someone else caught that piece.

And why didn't I hear about this on my news station?

Just kidding. No need to start another rant ;-)

Surely, it is the point that you are making, and I am just being obtuse, but this administration has engaged in newspeak for a very long time. Pretty much everything they say truly is the exact opposite. Compassionate Conservative; uniter, not divider, No Child Left Behind, and, of course, the exceedingly cynical naming of the USA PATRIOT act, which is so incredibly counter to the intent of the Founding Fathers as to not even be funny for a minute. Those are just some of the easy targets.

I don't give a rat's about the increased chocolate ration. It's the economy, and the war, and the corruption, and the corporo-facist state, stupid. Oh yeah, and the pure evil. If we could only get him to say "read my lips", it'd be over.
