Isn't it odd? I couldn't imagine who he was going to pick, and then, when he did, I was all like, "Oh! Of course!"

I was reading an article that said that in private conversations, Reid had specifically encouraged Bush to nominate Miers. I'm not finding the article and hafta get back to work right now, but this press release fits that story remarkably well...
