I have the vague feeling that this article is supposed
to be a parody of something, but I'm not sure what.

Be that as it may, for me the advantage of DVDs is that
you can get them from Netflix. Aside from that, I've
never noticed any quality difference between DVDs and
VHS tapes.

One huge advantage of VHS is that it plays when you pop it in.

It is bad enough that the DVDs make you choose "Play Movie"
from a menu (why would I have put the disk in the player if I
didn't want to play the movie), but it's triply frustrating
when you have to sit through twenty seconds of intro before
the menu even comes up.

What a maroon.

Everyone knows that the best format is Laserdisc.

[unless you get one that's not properly sealed, and then it's bitrot city...]

It's a parody of the VHS vs. Betamax debates, and the CD vs. vinyl debates.

On every DVD played I've used you can press the "play" button and it plays the main feature.

The fact that you have to wait for the content marked "unskippable" is annoying.

Laserdiscs still rule my roost. However, I do have a DVD player, and it'll skip anything I
want it to. There's no reason for me to sit through an ad for a company in receivership
after being hauled into court in 17 states for fraud. Or FBI warnings (since the FBI has
long since demonstrated they have zero interest in video piracy).

Damn kids these days with their bronze tools. Chipped flint was good enough for their grandfathers, it should be good enough for them!

My RCA DVD player goes to the disc menu when I press "play." I find it moderately annoying too, and am maddened beyond all proportion by being unable to skip or even fast-forward past the copyright warning.

This still makes DVDs more convenient than VHS in practice. It takes longer for my VHS player to fast-forward through eight minutes of previews than it does for me to start up the DVD, let it go through the animated menu screen, and select "play".

Still am completely unreasonably irritated by that fucking FBI warning. Being able to skip that may be the single most important advantage that open source DVD players bring us.

Beyond annoying, it's evil.

My dad lost his remote control and couldn't use his DVD player until he got another one.
