ZIP codes weren't introduced until 1963, and weren't commonly used for first-class mail until considerably later.

Oh, and I think the current two-letter state abbreviations postdate the introduction of the ZIP code. In any case, ZIP codes were in wide use for a while before two-letter codes came into comparably wide use.

niiice, totally aside from google and froogle not existing yet either, of course. Oh, and now that I think about it, amphitheatre parkway probably didn't exist yet either; I'm pretty sure Mountain View wasn't quite the same place then it is now.

Yes, the two-letter codes were introduced later in my childhood than zip codes. Sometime in the 1970s, I believe.
