I'm sure the change was for the better but...

I spent 2-3 hours getting a FreeBSD 5.3 box to use the serial port for it console for booting, login, console messages... EVERYTHING. I used to be able to do this in my sleep for FreeBSD 4.x. I’m sure the changes were for the better, but I wish they were better documented.

Big thanks to JI for the help over AIM. I couldn’t have done it without him. His suggestions of “try a different cable” and “debug it using kermit” were what made it possible. I hadn’t used kermit since college... wow, what a trip to see it again!

what was so different?, I haven't had much difficulty, then again it might be because I adopted 5.x very very very early and haven't used 4.x in over a year and a half... its just second nature....

I run 5.x on an E250 as well... its nice :)
