Google's bid for 700Mhz spectrum and me
Dec. 2nd, 2007 09:01 amGoogle has announced it will apply to participate in the FCC's upcoming auction 700MHz spectrum. As explained on the GoogleBlog, FCC's anti-collusion rules require that Google and its employees don't speak publicly about basically anything related to the auction starting Dec 3, 2007 and ending when the auction is over, which could be March or April. Interestingly enough, even if someone is out-bid and drops out they can't admit that they've dropped out until the entire thing is over. (see post "Who's going to win the spectrum auction? Consumers.")
What does this mean to me? It means that until now when people ask me about Google's entry into the mobile market I've had to reply, "I'm sorry, I don't know anything that you haven't read in the press." However, at midnight tonight I'll have to reply, "I'm sorry, I can't say anything."
Funny, eh?
