At the last big company I worked for, we had a foundation that did things like giving scholarships and taking credit for everyone else’s donations to United Way.

My current employer, Google, has a philanthropic arm (aptly named Google.Org) which spent $ to design rechargable electric cars and is going to spend a million bucks trying to get manufacturers interested in adopting the technology.

Some notes:
  • 100 MPG is the goal (74 is the current achievement, about +30 MPG over hybrids).
  • Solar Power on the office roofs provides energy (view the current output of the solar panels)
  • More info here
If by 2025, all U.S. cars on the road were hybrids and half were plug-in hybrids, oil imports would drop by 8 million barrels per day (mbd). Today, the US imports 10 mbd.

With so many kids being named Cody, I’m surprised nobody names their next child Datay.
