We did it!

[livejournal.com profile] quietchris and I closed on our new house today. After 4 years of going out, we will finally live in sin together officially!

If anyone wants a recommendation on a mortgage broker or real estate agent, let us know. They were fantastic. If you want an anti-recommendation for a real estate lawyer, same deal.

Due to logistics, we won’t be moving in until the end of the month. However, we can start moving objects into the space on the 18th.

I’m pretty enamored with Bell’s Theorem because the possibility of communicating at faster than light speeds would make my life easier, especially when I’m selected to be the first astronaut to Mars. But I digress.

Yesterday I was thinking that when you have a bunch of servers that need to maintain certain data, it can use up a lot of bandwidth to have them update each other. If each server needs to know what all the other servers know, you have O(N^2) communications to perform every time there is an update. That’s a lot!

An old trick to solve this problem uses zero bandwidth. Just have each server calculate what all the other servers should know. If everyone uses the same algorithm, there doesn’t need to be any communication. If you do it right, everyone just “does the right thing” at the exact right time.

So maybe that’s how Bell’s theorem works. Except what is the algorithm the photons are using? Maybe at their level the quantum flotsam and jetsam are just calculating when the scientist conducting the experiment WOULD be affecting the other photon.

I wonder.
