New scam: Apartment Phishing
Aug. 2nd, 2005 02:49 pmWe’re advertising a apartment for rent (actually, we have a spare room in our 3-person shared house). So far people from China and Australia have sent us very similar emails talking about how excited they are about moving to the US, 5-10 questions about the room, and an explanation that their employer will arrange payment if they are interested in the apartment.
When we got the first one it seemed suspecious. Now that we’ve gotten two, from different counties, it has got to be a scam.
I presume that if we replied they would say that they want the room and ask for our bank account number so their employer could transfer funds to us. Then there would be a great big sucking sound as the “employer” withdraws money from the account.
No thank you.
