Apple to switch to CMOS 6502 chip!
Jun. 6th, 2005 11:39 pmIn a stunning announcement at today’s Wild Worm Detectors Conference, Steve Jorbs announced that over the next 24 months they will move all their machines over to the 6502 chipset from the now defunct CMOS corporation.
The announcement stunned and delighted original Apple ][ users who cheered the return to their favorite CPU.
Commodore 64 fans balked at the decision, pointing out that the 6510, the upgrade to the 6502 used in the C-64, was vastly superior.
Jorbs announced that the original 6502 designers were frozen when CMOS went out of business and through cryogenics have recently been brought back to life. The new version of the 8-bit CPU will run at 10Ghz, a rate only possible on a chip so simple it only has 1 register and 2 indexes.
