NJ Governor James McGreevey "outs" himself, resigns as of Nov 15

LATE BREAKING NEWS:

New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey has announced his resignation effective 11/15/04. According to sources his friend Golan Cipel has, or might, file a sexual harassment suit against the Governor. Rumors for several years have been that Cipel was in a sexual relationship with the Governor. Cipel was a political appointment by the governor early in his administration and the rumors were rampant from the start of his first term. The story will be covered nationally by all the news organizations and Out in Jersey will have its own story in the next issue, October-November, due out on Thursday September 30, 2004.

This story will be old news by then, but I can assure you that our story will be the full coverage of the community as you have come to expect.

Yeah, what's the deal with that? I've read one blogger say something to the effect that he's also being accused of sexual harassment as well.. but the article didn't say anything like that. Personally if he's doing a good job otherwise, why should he resign?

I heard a bit of his resignation speech on NPR tonight. The snippet I heard went something like Shamefully I engaged in a consensual adult adulterous relationship with a man.... It sounded to me like he felt more shame from the relationship with a man than that it was adulterous. However I only heard about 5 seconds of it so I could just be reading a lot more into it than there was.
