I'm *totally* in favor of Edwards as VP. However, I think they should have waited for Bush to drop Cheney. Now the Republicans have a much better idea of who to pick to replace Cheney. If they had waited for Cheney's replacement to be named, the Dems would have the ability to modify their search criteria at the last minute.

I think Bush will pick Liddy Dole. That way it will split the women's organizations who would be torn between supporting an anti-choice woman versus a pro-choice male.

I know he's being seen more and more as a liability, but why do you think they'll drop him from the GOP ticket?

How likely is it they'll drop Cheney??

Long time no see, BTW... Welcome back!? :)

I think, frankly, that the only women's organizations who will vote to support Liddy Dole are the conservative, religious women's organizations. Liberal, pro-choice, progressive, etc. women will vote for the candidate who actually supports women's rights, whether that candidate is male or female. I'd love to see a woman in the White House, either as VP or as President, but I wouldn't vote for Liddy Dole for dogcatcher if you paid me.

Your homework is to read up on the battle that resulted in NOW endorsing Whitman for Gov. of New Jersey.

Yeah, well. That's New Jersey. You know what they say about people from New Jersey. :-)

That's governor, though. This is _just_ VP, with an objectionable evangelical lunatic Prez attached.

Yeah. That's a really good place to start. You'd be amazed at the number of middle-american women who would rather support a ticket with a women than worry about the details of the policies those on the ticket will push ...

fuck

It would probably be a good thing for W’s reelection prospects if Cheney withdrew behind the curtain, but I don’t think it’s going to happen (unless Cheney himself wants to, which he might).

Of course, that would be a good thing for W’s campaign only if Cheney still pulled W’s strings from behind the scenes. W isn’t as dumb as he pretends to be, but he’s also not as in charge as he pretends to be.

Not that I like any of the GOP options, but I don't think Cheney will be dropped from the ticket. That isn't the GOP way, or at least it isn't Bush's way. They never admit they were wrong, they never change their minds, and they don't back down. The most you can expect is for them to weasle-word their way into some position where it was all okay to begin with, or sometimes they will shut-up for a while.

The GOP does lie a *lot* and it amazes me how few times they have been called on it. I think their strategy is just that they can lie, spin, cheat to get their bullshit ideas out there, or rely on the apathy and ignorance of US voters to carry them through.

But I'm not pessimistic...

Quite. Bush Sr kept Quayle on the ticket, for example.

The only excuse I can think of for dropping him is if Cheney is seen to have some life-threatening illness.

(His life, as opposed to everyone else's, obviously.)
