Yesterday I walked into a voting booth and wrote-in Howard Dean for Democratic candidate. It was the conclusion of nearly a year of work, including 3 months of going without a salary to work for him.

His campaign ended before he could get on the NJ ballot, and it doesn't matter because everyone knew that the nomination would be locked up before NJ's primary happened. However it was a point of pride for me. I had been re-arranging business trips to make sure that I would be in NJ on this day.

Oh, and it is no longer a "write-in", it's a "personal choice vote". That's because you type the name on a little keyboard now, thanks to electronic voting.

Now we just have to elect Kerry and kick Bush out.

Tom, do you have anything actively *good* to say about Kerry?

I'd like to be able to support something better than "He's not G.W. Bush." You're not, either; aside from the minor quibble that you're not running for office, why would Kerry be a better vote than writing your name in?

best,

Joel. Who's debating whether just kicking Boosh out is sufficient, or whether his betrayal of public trust is sufficient to merit trying for a treason conviction after he's out of office.

I can think of a whole lot of people I'd rather vote for than Kerry (I worked for one of them during the primary), if only I had some indication that >50% of my fellow voters might join me ... Right now, President Billy Jack (Bush) & Sleepy John (Kerry) have all of money, attention, & momentum, & we're pretty much stuck with that dynamic--at least until next time.

(Once we dislodge Bush from the White House & his apologists from the various other levels of power, though, I'm all for launching the criminal investigation ...)

I have tons of good things to say about him. For example, his economic plan is to bring back the Clinton tax table, which is much more fair. Another example: he signed onto ENDA (the lgbt employee non-discrimination act) the very first year, and it was an election year. I'm about to hop on a plane or I'd write a lot of other things too.

Thanks; more would be welcome when and as you get the spare time.

best,
