Anyone want to do a little web programming (PHP or Perl/CGI, not just HTML) for a New Jersey GLIBTI organization? It's a good cause, and I say that not just because I'm on the board. It's really a database project. They want to make a system that can list GLBTI-friendly lawyers, or GLBTI-friendly churches, or GLBTI-friendly... you get the hint. Each database is basically the same, but has a slightly different set of questions, and a different volunteer coordinating it. Why not one software system for managing the whole thing?

I've designed the SQL database schema and worked out a draft for the screens. I can give a lot of help along the way. I just need someone willing to put write the back-end. It will go on a server that supports PHP, mod_perl, Mason, just about anything you want.

I even have a cool name suggestion. And... you can open-source the code if you want.

I'd be happy to help if I can.. don't think I can tackle the whole project, but I'd be glad to give a hand... :)

I'd do it if it was ASP.

I'd be very interested, Tom. I'm up on PHP and MySQL, and very interested in getting more live projects under my belt.

Can this be done from here, though? I have no way of traveling to Jersey on a regular basis.

Sure! It doesn't require physically being here. I'd love to have an in-person meeting just to get things off the ground, but maybe we could do it on the phone (with the help of faxing my feeble drawings to you).

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable approach! I'd also be willing to meet you up there somewhere near a train station, too, but either solution is totally acceptable to me.

Thanks! If we find a server that supports ASP, I'll contact you. Currently it only supports PHP and Perl/CGI.

The wheel, again

Take a look at www.gossamer-threads.com. Something like their LinksSQL product (full source, perl, couple of hundred bucks) might fit the bill and save you time.

Disclosure: I'm a customer. DBManSQL is the basis of my new provisioning/billing system. Talk about reinventing the wheel....

I've made a Twiki for people that want to get involved in this project. Write to me if you are interested.
