As it happens, a few years ago we did buy an air traffic control subsystem that runs on Windows NT -- although the workstation version. Built using Microsoft COM technology, running robust real-time...

Everyone who heard of the project when we were starting were horrified. Personally, I'm amazed at the uptimes we do get. A bit worse than the next echelon system on Solaris, but quite decent on their own right.

The main problem has proven to be the rapid obsolence of Microsoft OS products.
