Where are the so-called libertarians?
Jun. 20th, 2008 10:14 amMany Republicans seek the votes of libertarians on the basis of being “the party of small government”. I constantly upset my libertarian friends by telling them that they are getting hoodwinked. We’re living though an example right now...
Right now the FISA bill should have every Libertarian and libertarian steamed. Warrentless wiretaps? OMG! That’s as anti-libertarian as you can get, right?
I don’t mean to piss you off by bringing this up. Instead, I think this is an opportunity for coalition building.
The Republican Party has forsaken you. They used you to get elected but now that they are in power they are voting against your best interest. I beg you to see how the Democratic candidates are the only people that think this issue is important. If you can understand that, can you understand that we have other issues in common: it is a Democrat that has introduced a decriminalize pot law (Kennedy), streamlining government programs, etc. Heck, nearly every Dem challenger is speaking out against FISA, and nearly every Rep challenger is speaking in favor of FISA. Isn’t that enough of a clue?

But where are the libertarians on this? Cato, on their front page today, don’t have a single mention of FISA or telecom amnesty. Perhaps Reason magazine is picking up the slack? Again, not a word on FISA or what is about to happen. The official Libertarian party blog? The last update is from January 18th.link
