Don't claim you didn't do it or that you weren't speeding. They hate that.
Don't admit to it, but don't deny it. Be ambiguous but try to sound like you are owning up to it.
Be respectful. Call him "Sir". Begin every sentence with it. They have big egos and love that.
Before he goes back to the car, try to bargain: "Sir, I've been so good these last couple years. Yeah, when I was younger I racked up a lot of points but then I really cleaned up my act and my record's been spotless."
If they offer any kind of deal, take it. Don't push it any further.
They hate to be lackies for the insurance companiees, so they'd rather give you a ticket that has the same fine but no points. If you have something like, say, a "Baby on board" thing blocking your back view (illegal in NJ) they'll give you a fine for that and no points.
If you are female, smile, show some flesh, and be polite. It works.
If you are black, don't move your hands without announcing what you are about to do.
That's all I can remember. There was a lot more in the book.
