Despite Cheney’s health scare this morning, I got to thinking how it would affect the 2008 election if Cheney was replaced. The replacement would be the automatic front-runner for Republican candidate, and we’d have 3 years of opportunities to make him look bad. It could really help the Democrats.

What I found amusing:

1. Ariel Sharon goes into the hospital.
2. Pat Roberton says that Ariel Sharon is in the hospital because God hates him.
3. Ariel Sharon IMMEDIATELY improves.
4. Dick Cheney goes into the hospital.

Hysterical coincidence, or does whatever passes for a supreme being in this universe just have a wicked sense of humor?

It would also make it somewhat easier to impeach Bush, assuming that Cheney doesn't get replaced with someone just as bad (quite an assumption, I know).

Is there anyone just as bad a Cheney? Consider that to be so requires not only the level of malevalence, but the experience in using it.

It could also hurt the Democrats by giving the Republican condidate (sic) a chance to gain three years of solid experience and a chance to use the "don't rock the boat" line (never mind the Republican failure to note that the boat is sinking).

I agree with this. "Our national security would be imperiled by having a political transition in wartime." There's not much historical support for that statement, but it sure kicked our ass in 2004.

Maybe less a sense of humor than a sense of poetic justice. "Oh, I despise Sharon, do I? Well, let's show you my REAL feelings."

Great observation, by the way. Someone should question Robertson about it.

Unfortunately Democrats seem incapable of making Republicans look bad. Thankfully Republicans are pretty good at making themselves look bad.

By the way, Bush went on TV today to say that Cheney is feeling fine now. Given that practically every word out of Bush's mouth lately is a lie, we can expect Cheney to have a major heart attack or stroke any day now.

That didn't kick our ass in 2004--Kerry did a pretty good job of kicking his own ass. He failed to present a simple, clear message, continually allowed the Republicans to make the rules of engagement, and let things like the Swift Boat controversy run out of control before even addressing them, when he should have attacked it quickly and decisively and THEN left it alone, et cetera, ad nauseum. We might as well have been running a trained monkey for office. At least then it would have been an even contest.

To top it all off, the b*****d just gave up, when it was pretty clear to people all over that the election had been stolen by rigged voting machines, and refused to pursue the matter any further. "Nope, sorry, I concede, because I think fighting over the Presidency will hurt our country more than letting GW have four more years." Yeah, THAT turned out great.

Here's to hoping 2008 brings us a viable candidate, preferably one with a spine and a pair of functional cojones (figuratively speaking, of course).
