How long does it take Tom to diagnose a network outage 3,000 miles away that turns out to be someone plugging a machine at the same IP address as the router?

3 hours. Ugh. No fair.

I almost had to buy a plane ticket.

oh yes. i love that problem. it's amazing how nasty the results are.

we had a couple sales guy that would plug j-random-laptop into the network, and all kinds of fun would ensue... anything from the random DNS/router outage, to viruses, to ... guh.

it never sunk in to them. NEVER. plug. any. non. company. hardware. that. isn't. priorly. sanitized. vetted. and. known. NOT TO BE COMPROMISED. into. the. INTERNAL. secure. net. NEVER.

take their work laptop away for repair/sanction? they bring in their own. the one used by their kids download porn and warez. the ones that is a walking talking virus factory. which they then plug in.

incredible. firing is too good for them.
