IF YOU WATCH ONE VIDEO THIS YEAR, CHECK OUT THIS ONE!

Gapminder.org

I saw them do this presentation on Thursday (the video below is from when they did the presentation on Tuesday). Its really amazing. Imagine someoe taking the UN poverty data and making it easier to understand by animating it. It will shock you how much of what we think we know isn't true. Did you know that Iran is the biggest promoter of condom use? Did you know that there are poor counties that have healthier babies than some rich countries?

Watch and discover.

Alas, all I saw in Firefox was a bunch of blank blue slides.

Good question. I just upgraded to OS 10.4 last week.

I don't have time to watch a 1-hour-plus video today, but yes, as a childbirth educator, I can tell you that US infant-mortality statistics are poor. There are two reasons, one due to the way statistics are kept (which I can expand on if you like). The other is that in the US we throw technology at nearly every birth, even though midwifery care (common in much of Europe) has demonstrably better outcomes for most low-risk women. It's sad.
