How rad, as they say in California :) I wish more companies would do this.
Speaking of, I'm taking a GMAT prep class, which is held in a NYC public high school. They had the cafeteria menu posted, and I was surprised how nutritious and varied it was. My high school in affluent Orange County couldn't come close to what these kids are getting! Things have changed.
I was talking to our facilities manager (formerly a regional manager for one of the bay area food service companies) about this article just yesterday, and apparently it's not quite accurate. Yes, they do have some great food at Google, and yes they do have a pair of chefs. However, they *did* outsource everything else -- everyone except the chefs and the food service director are outsourced to Bon Appetit.
Fortunately for those of you at Google the chefs have a lot of control over what Bon Appetit does with their menus, as everywhere I've ever dealt with that used them the food was awful.
The thing that I find funny is that we have a similar setup (free breakfast and lunch) with a chef on-site and a fantastic menu. But, since we only have 350 people we never get written up in the papers....
