My Valentines Day Tip

In a few days everyone freak on Live Journal is going to post why they hate Valentines Day, or why they love Valentines Day, or what they did with their partner or partners on Valentines Day.

Instead, I offer this preemtive tip:

Surprise your lover with The 12-Second Kiss

Add romance with this most simple technique. The next time you kiss your SO, kiss for a full 12 seconds. I don't mean 12 seconds of smooching, I mean one single kiss that lasts 12 seconds. Actually count. After 2-3 seconds your SO will register a lot of surprise, don't let them disengage. Keep is up.... 10... 11.. 12. Ahhhh.

For best results, do this the next time you are giving them a quick kiss goodbye or hello. Don't wait for some special romantic situation.

Post your results in a reply to this message. I'd love to hear if it worked for you as well as it worked for me.

(Note: I got this from an interview on NPR with a "romance expert" a while back.)

Not a bad idea except I imagine my fool geek self eith counting "One one thousand, two one thousand.... " in my head or trying to surrepticiously look at my watch behind her/his back. We have to be scientific about this after all...

So how does one time this and maintain the mood?

Counting to 12

They'll never know that you are thinking, "1... 2... 3..." and not about them.

No Valentine's day for me; I'm heading to Dallas for a conference that day. My travel companion has already whined about leaving his partner here.

Trying to figure out whether to go to Regency Dancing, go to Pantheacon, or see clients as usual on Feb 14.

When they start flailing for breath, that's usually about 12 seconds.

...or you could just make sure they don't have a cold and a stuffed-up nose first.

[livejournal.com profile] mycroft always likes exceptionally long kisses. Me, I'm a 3-5 second kisser, and he's a 10-15 second kisser. i know because I kept getting frustrated because he took so long to kiss me, and I couldn't think of a way to say, "hey, stop kissing me for so long!" so I just started counting, to keep myself busy and not disengage from teh kiss. :)
