Speeding ticket... AVOIDED

I got pulled over for speeding this morning. There is a little section of road with a low speed limit to catch morning commuters. Every day I'm very careful to slow down there but today I think the sun and the good music made me forget. I was doing 19 above the limit. Luckily, I used all the knowledge I got from a book I read about talking your way out of speeding tickets. When he came back to the car he told me that I was very lucky and there would be no ticket.

Woo hoo!!!

Lemme see if I can remember the highlights:
  • Don't claim you didn't do it or that you weren't speeding. They hate that.
  • Don't admit to it, but don't deny it. Be ambiguous but try to sound like you are owning up to it.
  • Be respectful. Call him "Sir". Begin every sentence with it. They have big egos and love that.
  • Before he goes back to the car, try to bargain: "Sir, I've been so good these last couple years. Yeah, when I was younger I racked up a lot of points but then I really cleaned up my act and my record's been spotless."
  • If they offer any kind of deal, take it. Don't push it any further.
  • They hate to be lackies for the insurance companiees, so they'd rather give you a ticket that has the same fine but no points. If you have something like, say, a "Baby on board" thing blocking your back view (illegal in NJ) they'll give you a fine for that and no points.
  • If you are female, smile, show some flesh, and be polite. It works.
  • If you are black, don't move your hands without announcing what you are about to do.
That's all I can remember. There was a lot more in the book.
