Unsend Email

For more than 10 years I've wished there was a way to "unsend email". I've even discussed the technical feasibility of it, and some of the crypto that would make it work. Alas, it's still unbelievably impossibly undoable.

However, earlier this week I realized that if someone were to implement such a system, it would change the way we email. For example, this week while preparing for a trip to London, I kept sending email to my London co-workers with items that I'd need while I was out there (a certain piece of hardware, a screwdriver, etc.). I kept thinking of new things and adding to the list. It would have been neat, if emails were unsend-able, to have just revised the list in-place, until they had read it. At which point I'd start a new list. That way they would have seen 1 well-constructed list instead of receiving dribs and drabs. Since we're at very different time zones I was never sure when they'd last check their email, and I didn't want to risk missing them by delaying until I had the complete list, but I didn't want to annoy them by constantly saying, "Oh, and one more thing!"

Does anyone have friends on the Chandler team? Do they have a better solution to this problem?

Anyway... I just think that if you could "unsend email", we'd find many applications beyond the, "Oops, I didn't meant to send that" original inspiration.
